Interesting. Do you know how this tower was used? Where is this place?

it is in New Paltz, NY at the Mohonk Mountain House. I think it was used to fight off marauding bands viking warriors.

are you sure about this?! i did a little research and discovered that it may have been used to fend off hordes of sword wielding pirates in the middle of cold winter nights.

You're both wrong (or just being funny, I don't know). I finally found out what this tower is, and this is what I found:

Observation Tower and one time fire lookout built as a memorial to Albert K. Smiley - patriach of the Smiley Family (owners of the Mohonk Mountain House). Offers views of six states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts. Built of local stone, construction started in 1921, and finished in 1923.

I also read that "Mohonk" means "lake in the sky"

Just a bit of trivia for you. Interesting, none-the-less.
